The Fountain of Youth
Will lasers replace certain plastic surgery procedures in the future? A treatment called the Fountain of Youth could be the proof.
As is the case with other branches of medicine, aesthetic medicine is beginning to stress the merits of “prevention” over “therapy”. The trend of the future will be to keep the body from aging to the point where a radical surgical procedure is the only solution. Instead, efforts will be made to preserve the body through non-invasive methods beginning early in life. One of these “preventative” aesthetic methods intended for the face is the “Fountain of Youth”.
How does the method work?
The poetic title “Fountain of Youth” describes a series of laser rejuvenation, or, rather, youth preserving procedures that produce absolutely fantastic results. With laser rejuvenation we can remove changes in the surface of the skin such as expanded veins and pigment blemishes, as well as induce reconstruction (renewal) of damaged collagen in the deeper layers of the skin, thus tightening the skin and smoothing wrinkles. The result is tight skin without red veins and brown pigment blemishes.
Treatment on your morning break
Minimal invasiveness is the great advantage of these procedures and clients leave the clinic with only very slight traces from the treatment. For this reason they are often referred to as "lunchtime" or “coffee break” procedures, as it is truly possible to step out for these procedures and return to work without any problems immediately afterwards. The skin is completely healed within 2 to 3 days. Another advantage is the variability of treatment: depending on the extent and degree of skin damage we choose and combine for each patient different types of rejuvenation treatments such as various combinations of lasers, IPL machines, and others.
The Fountain of Youth at the Asklepion Clinic
Asklepion now offers the “Fountain of Youth” to clients using a combined treatment of four types of lasers. The treatments can be divided into a number of individual sessions with a 1 – 2 week interval between them; alternatively, the procedure can be shortened to two treatments 2 weeks apart.
Two of these treatments remove surface changes on the skin such as veins and pigmentation (VBeam lasers and the IPL machine Ellipse Flex). The second laser procedures renew the collagen in the skin (Smoothbeam and Nd:YAG). All treatments are performed on an out-patient basis, the majority with Emla cream local anaesthetic. The treated location remains red for several hours after the procedure but returns to normal relatively quickly. The skin must be protected against the sun and tanning for 6 weeks after the procedure.
