Chronic cold (chronic sinusitis)
The simple chronic cold is defined when a few times during the day and night the nasal lining, i.e. mucosa, intermittently swells – the nose becomes blocked. With the permanent hypertrophic cold the mucosa is swollen permanently. Patients can breathe only through the mouth, mumble, which affects their social life, lose smell and taste, but can also suffer seriously with chronic chest infections or asthma.

The laser mucotomy is a procedure during which the doctor destroys the hypertrophied and damaged mucosa with the Diode laser and opens nasal spaces. There is only the surface mucosal layer removed but the baseline tissue is preserved.
The patient can undergo the procedure with use of only local anaesthetic. If the patient feels mild to average pain it lasts only for a fraction of second.
There are no postoperative signs on the face, even the nose looks completely normal. A few days after the procedure the breathing stays slightly compromised because of the associated mucosal swelling. This heals quickly and this condition can be compared clinically to acute cold symptoms.
During healing the mucosa regenerates to new and healthy tissues. Thanks to that we can eliminate problems of chronic cold/sinusitis, or at least markedly reduce its symptoms.
