Discoloured „black” teeth
The grossly discoloured teeth are not only aesthetically unacceptable, but indicate also the general dirtiness and bad oral hygiene of that person. Teeth get dark specifically after some food ingredients or in smokers, but can change colour significantly after accidents and death of the tooth pulp, after the wrong root treatment, with dark fillings or due to tooth decay. In some cases the colour cannot be altered by cleaning but the underlying cause has to be eliminated.

The examination!
The basis for the treatment in Asklepion is the dental examination, where a lot of questions have to be answered. To treat the problem properly the cause of discolouration has to established with great accuracy, not to confuse it with e.g. surface pigment or translucent dark dental tissue.
Invisible filling!
The obvious causes have to be removed such as the large amalgam fillings, dead tissue, dental pulp affecting the colour, or dental decay. The colour is of course affected by anything what shines through and influences final appearances of the tooth crown. The defect of the tissue has to be replaced by material most compatible to the colour of original teeth, especially in areas of the mouth which are aesthetically important.
Whitening of teeth!
If the teeth are dead they are properly cleaned and the whitening material is applied into the tooth. This is possible during one visit in the dental department, or in more thorough way during a few visits by changing the whitening inlay. In the majority of teeth this discolouration treatment is not only very effective but with a careful post treatment regime even permanent!
Ceramic onlay!
The teeth which are treated by endodontics and need to regain their original strength to prevent possible breaking can be treated by so called ceramic onlays. This will achieve excellent aesthetic properties, it is transparent as are natural teeth tissues, and does not need long preparations as it is essential with classical crowns. Thanks to the new technology CEREC, ceramic onlays are made by a dental robot in Asklepion while waiting during one single visit in our clinic.
