Double chin
The progressive loosening of the elasticity of skin with age and the deposition of fat in the area below the chin, in addition to further bad habits, can lead to the formation of a double chin and change of the whole face. It is an aesthetic problem and women or men have to come to terms with it. However there is an answer to most aesthetic problems and no need of suffering because of that.
The available methods for correcting this abnormality which are available include the featherlift, plastic surgery and liposuction, or their combination. In Asklepion all these procedures are very commonly performed.
Featherlift
This is a relatively new technique in the Czech Republic. The surgeon introduces special threads through small openings behind the ears. The double chin is lifted with the help of these. This procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic as a day case. Few days are required for healing.
Liposuction
Liposuction is performed in Asklepion with the gentlest and most sensitive method – vibration liposuction – usually with local anaesthetic unless the patient requests general anaesthesia. There is a small cannula introduced via a small incision in the chin and the fatty tissue is removed. Liposuction can be managed as a day case but it is usually more comfortable for the patient to stay overnight. The patient will need to abstain from work for at least one week and has to wear a specific outfit which will help to remodel the new submandibular area for 7–14 days.
Plastic surgery
Operation on double chin is a surgical procedure which involves stretching the skin on the temples, the cheeks are lifted, the excess of skin is removed the double chin is reduced and skin of neck is stretched. This operation can be done with local anaesthetic or supervised sleep or general anaesthetic. The operated area will be swollen for a few days and will be sore. It is necessary to expect at least two days of hospital admission and two weeks abstaining off work.
Cosmetics
The prevention and further loosening of the neck can be to some extent helped by special exercises, cosmetics and cosmetic programmes which are available in Asklepion. We use leading French cosmetic products, Orlane and Decleor. The excellent results are achieved by stimulation of the double chin area with an instrument called Belex and the stimulation of the skin by laser, called Smoothbeam.
