Edentulous mouth
The final loss of one or more teeth or even whole dentition does not have to be a tragedy, when a dentist knows how to create a good replacement. All CASE have to be treated very quickly, sooner than the jaw bone starts adjusting to edentulous gums and the face changes its shape. Teeth replacements can look Berger than real teeth, artificial teeth must be as good as patient’s own. The loss of teeth is frequently considered as one of the main signs of aging.
For the non vital, fractured and really damaged teeth the answer is metaloceramic or purely ceramic crowns. If the root of a tooth is damaged or the whole tooth is missing we odvise the use of implants or removable replacements to our clients. Prosthetics, which sorts out the missing teeth, has excellent results in Asklepion not only because of the top specialists, but also thanks to the most modern technology and materials which we use.
Metaloceramic crowns have the core of crown made of metal alloy, which secure the strength. On the surface this metal is covered by ceramic , which is matched by colour and shape to the original tooth. The metaloceramic constructions are also a basis for fixed bridges or other anchorages of removable replacements.
The pure ceramic crowns are made from special material which provides the replacement with enough strength, similar to metaloceramic metal. Unlike metal these allow some light to pass through and crowns achieve better hue of colour. There is also no phenomenon of dark streaks at the gum line which is common with metaloceramic crowns.
The revolution in pure ceramics is a new technology called CEREC. The dentist models for example a crown on the computer screen and the machine cuts it out from a block of ceramic. The work is finished during one visit. With CEREC it is possible to create extensive bridges, which are undistinguishable from healthy teeth.
The removable replacements have to be not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. The old systems with metal claps are considered obsolete now. They are used only for a temporary work. Even total replacements, which are aesthetically nice, are not always pleasant and can cause problems with stability. This is the reason that in Asklepion we like to use for these replacements implants and mini implants.
The mini implants are teeth replacements, which are fixed to the jaw by the self threading implantation screws of very small diameter (1.8mm) so they can be used in patients with very narrow jaw. The replacement locks to rounded heads of mini implants and fits in firmly.
The classical implants really replace the roots of teeth. The likelihood of the komplete healing of these implants is near to 100% and their durability is comparable to conventional bridges. The implants can be also used for the anchorage of removable replacements.
