The most common problems of the eyelids is the excess skin on the upper eyelids and the fatty swollen protrudings below eyes, so called bags. They are caused by aging, through illness or hereditary predisposition. They get worse with time and eventually the aesthetic problem changes to a medical one.
The correction of the eyelids is one of the most effective plastic operations, which are performed in Asklepion. The procedure helps not only the appearance but also the sight. The eyes are less tired, stop watering and the impaired vision does not cause headaches.
The operation itself is not technically complicated. Patients can cope with only a local anesthetic. There is a light general anesthetic available for those who request that. During the operations the surgeon removes the excess of the upper eye lids and/or the bags under the eyes.
In Asklepion the modern procedure of „transconjuctival blepharoplasty” is available, when the surgeon removes the excessive fat at the back of the lower lid with the scalpel or laser. The specialist enters the eyelid through the conjunctiva, so the wound „glues” itself, there is no need for surgical stitches and there are no scars. If the excess of skin is removed it is performed in the way that the natural lines are used for scars which are completely hidden and invisible.
After the procedure the patient can go home the same day but comes back the next day for changing of dressing. They can return to work the third day after the procedure. Wearing sun glasses are recommended for at least one week after the operation, because the eyes can be swollen, there can be some bruising, and the protection against the direct sun makes eyes much more comfortable.
