Haemangioma
Haemangioma is a benign skin growth of red colour that originates from blood vessels creating three dimensional structures. The majority are inborn but some appear later in life caused by the sun rays exposure. Very frequently they are situated on the face but they can be anywhere on the body. If they are not removed there is a risk that they will multiply and grow.

The removal of any small lesion by a scalpel is easy but it leaves inevitably a scar. In Asklepion we recommend the use of lasers as the most effective and most gentle application. There is no suturing, removing of sutures, and mainly no scars. In addition it is possible to use lasers in rather awkward positions as for example on hairy part of head without any shaving, or where there is continuous pulling of skin as on the back of body or the arm biceps, where there is a danger of slow wound healing.
Laser vbeam – the so called vessel sclerosing laser used in our clinic, removes haemangioma with 95% accuracy at the first treatment. The laser beam hits the haemangioma, reacts with the blood dye and destroys it. The vessels are occluded and the body mechanism absorbs them.
Laser GentleYAG in combination with vbeam is used especially in large and deep haemangiomas. Diode laser is used for the biggest haemangiomas. The rays lead to coagulation, the vessels are „fried” and destroyed and later absorbed by the body.
The touch of lasers is comparable to a short whip of an elastic rubber band. The specialist chooses the appropriate anaesthesia for the chosen procedure. The skin after the treatment reddens and small scabs appear which drop off later on spontaneously. The skin has to be protected by high factor sun creams against exposure to sun rays; the appropriate agent is for example Photoderm.
The experienced dermatologists in Asklepion are helped in their diagnosis by the highly advanced computer technology. The instrument DermoGenius assesses the lesion and compares it to thousands of other small lesions and skin growths, which are retained in its memory. It analyses the probability of any skin lesion being potentially malignant in a few seconds.
