Hair loss
The hair, frequently a symbol of beauty and health, suffers with many problems, complicated by an unhealthy life style, wrong habits, stress, hormonal changes or genetic predisposition. Hair can loose elasticity, starts to break, the ends split, there is a significant hair loss or it stops growing. These can lead eventually to total hair loss. It is important to recognise other possible causes of hairloss in searching to establish more serious diagnoses, which can be associated with this symptom.

The first step in the therapy of any hair loss is the basic examination and accordingly subsequent treatments may vary widely. One possibility is the related therapeutic products, other appropriate food supplements recommended by the specialist, but also cosmetics and special massages for better circulation and rejuvenation of the head, which are available in Asklepion in our cosmetic department.
Another supportive therapy recommended in Asklepion for hair loss and baldness is the dermatological therapy with the special biostimulation lamp Omnilux. The red light stimulates the growth and improves the quality of hair as well.
Frequently the only true solution for hair loss is having a hair transplant. In this method, a small piece of skin with an adequate number of hair follicles is removed from elsewhere on the body, for example on the back of the neck. The surgeon divides this skin tissue and establishes the areas where these small fragments with hair follicles should be transplanted into minute openings. In about 80% of people the follicles of implants heal after a few days.
The hair starts to grow about three months after the procedure. It cannot be expected that the new thickness of hair will reach the average distribution. If the procedure is done in somebody with a thinned hair, that result is possible, but in a bald person there are more procedures required. Unfortunately there is a large delay required in order to wait six months when the specialist has to assess the previous transplantation results.
The hair transplantation is performed in Asklepion with local anaesthetic or if required with adequate sedation. The procedure is often very time demanding, lasting about 3–5 hours. During healing there can be some associated swelling of the forehead and face.
