Paradontosis (periodontal disease)
Paradontosis is not only the inflammation of gums „on the surface” but also of the other deeper structures, including the bone. The main cause is not wrong composition of saliva, weakened immunity or inheritance, but non-effective cleaning of the teeth. The symptoms start with a minor bleeding of gums, it progresses to periodontal pockets, the roots are exposed, the gums recede, and teeth become loose, gums ache and become swollen.

Mouth hygiene
The basic rules of parodontosis treatment have to include right principles of cleaning of teeth. If this is learned at the beginning of pathological process when only the part of the gum around the neck of the tooth is affected, it can be the cure leading to a complete disappearance of the inflammation.
Removal of tooth plaque
If there is well established formation of tooth plaque not even the best hygiene can help the inflammation and it is the plaque which has to be removed first. The problem can even be under the gums and there are special instruments available which can clean in such places.
Change of fillings
Sometimes there is a contribution to the process of paradontosis by old bad fillings and prosthetic work and changes of these are required. There can be places under the crowns which are not clean and cause the inflammation.
Elimination of the bacteria
It is necessary in some cases to identify the bacteria causing the inflammation. There are modern techniques available which use the genetic based diagnosis, such as PCR; they assist and are essential in making the best choice of antibiotics if they are necessary.
Operative procedures
In very advanced cases, the operative therapy is inevitably needed. The dentist will decide which technique is chosen according to detailed examination and the extent of gum damage. Sometimes the roots should be cleaned under the direct visual control, but occasionally the gums have to be shortened to prevent further progress. If there are favourable conditions there is the possibility to rebuild the bone. The exposed roots can be covered again in some cases.
In a few patients the condition is worsened by so called upper lip frenulum. The removal of this frenulum is only a few seconds lasting procedure, bloodless, performed with our Diode laser.
