Tooth abscess
The formation of tooth abscesses is usually associated with genetics, poor quality of teeth, bad immunity etc. The cause is always infection spreading from the tooth. It is the decay of the tooth which is the origin in most cases, and we can conclude that good mouth hygiene is the best prevention and nobody who follows this has to fear this problem. The abscess is no longer the reason for a definite extraction, and is nearly always curable.

„Root canal therapy”
The term root canal therapy is included under the technical term of endodontic treatment. The principal is simple – it consists of removing all bacteria from the inside of the tooth and filling the space well enough that no further growth could restart and lead to abscess formation. The success is guaranteed by the specialist’s care, the use of modern instruments and new techniques. The modern endodontic procedures use the advanced x-ray machine, kofferdam or apexlocator which make the achievements possible. Asklepion has access to all this equipment and that is why the success in the treatment of abscesses is so good. The procedures such as resections or an extraction of tooth are exceptional in these circumstances.
Opened drainage?!
There used to be situations when fortnightly visits at the dentist’s clinic were necessary because the tooth was opened and needed the root canal therapy and changing of disinfectant pads. The toothache often continued after closing procedure. It is not surprising because the opened space allows bacteria to enter into that area. They produce toxins, which invade the adjacent bone and tissue and cause inflammation. When the space is closed there is a further subsequent pain.
The bone is a living structure which can use self defence and can remove these bacteria, but dead teeth cannot fight this. The removal of bacteria from the tooth can be achieved by careful procedures of endodontic therapy. Instead of repeated root canal therapy of the opened tooth as described above, where there is long waiting for uncertain results, we can now offer to our patients the most effective and cleanest treatment available. It requires only one session in the majority of cases. The abscess is healed without pain, resection or antibiotics!
